Alumni spotlight #2: Peerapak (2018 cohort)
We are excited to feature alumni Peerapak Adsavakulchai (Deloitte) and his GEARE experience.
Peerapak made the most out of the GEARE program through his study abroad at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, and domestic/global internship with American Axle & Manufacturing (AAM) in Bad Homburg, Germany and Detroit, Michigan. AAM is a global leader in motor vehicles and parts. He graduated with a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering with Highest Distinction (4.00) in 3.5 years.
What did you learn from GEARE?
Peerapak learned three things through the program.
Find something that motivates you outside of work
Make sure you put in the work and do your best in any opportunities that come by, but don't forget to give yourself time for self reflection and simply enjoy the moment.
Surround yourself with people who will help you when you fall
Have a network of people that will be there for you during tough times.
Don't hesitate and just go for it!
There are enough fears and hesitation in life that will stop you from doing many things. During your time abroad, this is a great excuse for you to make bold moves and to get out of your comfort zone.
"Study abroad is a great time for you to find your north star"
What would you do differently if you were to go through GEARE again?
"I would have traveled less and tried to establish my roots locally to feel more at home"
What advice would you give to students?
To open yourself up and not be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Learn to be comfortable with uncomfortable situations. For example, during his 9 day trip to Italy, he had all of his personal belongings stolen on the second day but still managed to figure everything out by reaching out to locals, making new friends. Throughout his international experience, he made sure he had fun by making the most out of every opportunity that came by even during tough times.
"GEARE is a lifestyle, it doesn't stop after graduation"
What skills did GEARE help you develop that you find useful in your professional career?
Adaptability. As a consultant Peerapak makes a conscious effort to adapt his communication style and way of working to match his clients respectively. He manages and adapts accordingly all the while making sure not to lose himself. It is a difficult skill to have but GEARE has helped him develop his ability to adapt in any environment.
During his first year at Deloitte, Peerapak has had the opportunity, to work in California, Illinois, North Carolina, New Jersey, and Texas. He has worked extensively with clients across industries in Consumer Packaged Goods, Life Sciences, and Agriculture providing strategic & implementation services.
